For indie app developers, ASO agencies and product teams

Know the moment a competitor ships an update.

Add the App Store apps you watch. VersionPing checks them as often as every 15 minutes and sends you the new version number, the full release notes and anything else that changed in the listing, by email, Slack or Discord. No dashboards to remember to open.

For indie developers watching a handful of rivals, ASO consultants and agencies tracking apps for clients, and product managers who want competitor releases in the team channel.

Today, you find out late

You check by hand

Every week or so you open each competitor's App Store page and scroll to "What's New". Then you forget for a month.

Updates slip past

A rival ships the feature you were planning, changes its price or rewrites its screenshots, and you hear about it from a user review.

Big tools are too big

Full app intelligence suites do this and much more, but they are priced for companies with a market research budget, not for one competitor list.

Release notes vanish

The App Store shows only the latest release notes. Unless someone copied the old ones, the history is gone.

You do not need downloads estimates or keyword rankings to know what your competitors are shipping. You need one message when it happens.

With VersionPing

Add the apps you watch

Paste an App Store link or search by name. Pick the countries that matter to you, because release notes and timing can differ from one App Store country to another.

Checked every few minutes

VersionPing checks each app every 15 minutes on paid plans (hourly on the free plan) using Apple's public App Store data. When the version changes, it saves the release notes and compares the listing with the last check.

One message where you work

The alert goes to your email and, if you like, a Slack or Discord channel: app, old and new version, release notes, and what else changed. Prefer fewer messages? Choose a daily or weekly summary instead.

Try it: a habit tracker's competitor list

A fictional developer watching five fictional rival apps. Run the next check and see the alert arrive. Nothing is saved or sent.

Your alert

No alert yet. Run the next check.

The alert links to the App Store page and to the app's full version history in your account.

What VersionPing doesn't do

It does one thing: tells you, quickly and reliably, when an app you care about changes.

  • No download or revenue estimates, keyword rankings or review analysis: it watches for updates only
  • It never needs access to your own App Store Connect account or any app's code
  • It does not read or download the apps, only their public App Store listing
  • Version history starts the day you add an app: the App Store does not publish older release notes for us to copy
  • Google Play is not included at launch (see the questions below)

Why not AppFollow, Appfigures or AppTweak?

They are good, broad app intelligence tools: reviews, keyword rankings, download estimates, ad intelligence and more. If you already pay for one and use its update tracking, you do not need VersionPing. If all you want is to hear when competitors ship, VersionPing does only that, for the price of a lunch.

Questions

How can I get notified when a competitor's app is updated on the App Store?

Add the app to VersionPing with its App Store link. It checks the app every 15 minutes on paid plans, or hourly on the free plan, and sends you an email, Slack or Discord message as soon as a new version appears, with the version number, the release notes and any other changes to the listing.

How quickly will I hear about a new version?

VersionPing checks every 15 minutes on paid plans and hourly on the free plan, and the alert goes out on the check that finds the change. Apple's public data can occasionally show a new version a little after the update goes live in the App Store app, so on rare days an alert can come later than the release itself.

What changes does it alert on?

A new version number, with the release notes ("What's New"). The same alert also lists other changes to the listing seen since the last check: app name, icon, screenshots, price, app size, category and minimum iOS version. You can mute the ones you do not care about.

Does it work for Google Play apps?

Not at launch. Apple publishes App Store listing data in a form we can check openly; Google Play does not offer that for other developers' apps, and we do not want to rely on scraping. If Google Play matters to you, say so on the waitlist form: it is the most likely next addition.

Can I track apps in different countries?

Yes. Each app can be watched in several App Store countries. Release notes are often translated per country, and a release can appear in one country before another, so the alert says which country it came from.

Can I see the release notes of older versions?

Everything VersionPing sees from the day you add an app is kept, so your history grows with every release. The App Store itself only shows the latest notes in a form we can collect, so earlier history is not filled in.

Can alerts go to Slack or Discord?

Yes. Paste an incoming webhook link from Slack or Discord and alerts post to that channel. On the Team plan each client or project list can post to its own channel, and a plain webhook can send each change as JSON to your own systems.

Do I need to connect my App Store Connect account?

No. VersionPing uses only public App Store listings, so it never needs your developer account, your apps or any password.

Is it useful for ASO agencies?

Yes: watch each client's competitors in a separate list, send each list to its own Slack or Discord channel, and export the release history when you write the monthly report. Screenshot, name and icon changes are flagged in the same alert, which is often the first sign a competitor is testing new store creative.

How is VersionPing different from AppFollow, Appfigures, AppTweak or Sensor Tower?

Those are broad app intelligence platforms with reviews, keyword rankings, estimates and much more, priced accordingly. VersionPing only tracks updates and listing changes and sends them where you work, at $9 or $19 a month.

Why not use IFTTT or a web page monitor?

They work for one or two apps. You set up each app and each channel yourself, a page monitor alerts on any change to the page's text without saying what changed, and nothing keeps a tidy release history. VersionPing is built for a competitor list: add an app once, pick its countries, and every alert says exactly what changed.

How much does it cost?

Free for up to 3 apps, checked hourly with email alerts. $9 per month for up to 15 apps (Indie) or $19 per month for up to 100 apps with webhooks, client lists and teammates (Team). Free 14-day trial.

Why US dollars?

Most developer tools are priced in dollars, and checkout shows the amount in your currency. Customers in the EU, UK and elsewhere pay the same price, plus VAT where required.
